Places to Visit in Rotorua

The Buried Village
The Buried Village is a reconstructed Maori dwelling place that was caught in the 1886 Tarawera eruption. The site was excavated and you can see various exhibits from this. There are also scenic walks there which take you past some pretty waterfalls and streams.

The Agrodome
This is the Agrodome, which must be visited if only to experience its typically New Zealand brand of weirdness. It is fantastic. Anthropologists will one day excavate the Agrodome and be utterly puzzled as to what its cultural significance was. Ever wondered what the difference is between Black Romney, Dorset Horn, Drysdale, Cheviot and Perendale sheep? The Agrodome has these and a great many other types of sheep you probably didn't know existed. Some of these sheep are very bizarre looking, not at all like the pictures on Christmas cards and carpet commercials. The Agrodome sponsors sheep shows, shearing displays, sheep dog trials, farm tours and horse riding. Its situated at the north west edge of the city of Rotorua.

The Rotorua Art & History Museum
The Rotorua Art & History Museum (Te Whare Taonga O Te Arawa) has some nice exhibits and contains artifacts that display the cultural heritage of the Arawa tribe, who were the main pre-European inhabitants of Rotorua.
